TROY HAYMAKERS Manager: Dave Bestle (17th season) 2016 Finish: 6-18 ATL / 7-19 overall   7th place T The Troy Haymakers enter their 36th season looking to work back into the playoffs and reestablish itself as a consistent challenger.  The Haymakers will be led by 2016 ATL Batting Champion Andrew Brochu (.439, IF/OF), Ron Morello (.304, OF/1B), Sean McLaughlin (.320, IF), and solid core of young veterans.  Nick DeVries (Maine) will anchor the pitching staff, joined by returnees Dillon Holland and Jim Hudson, and newcomers Dylan Pollock (HVCC) and Dan Yankowski (HVCC).  A versatile group of infielders, led by Kevin Napier (2015 All-Star 1B), Kyle Bestle (HVCC) and Mike Graves (HVCC), will back up the pitching staff.  The team must deal with the losses of Jared Morello (IF/P) and Joe Rooney (P/IF), but strengthened the lineup with the returns of former Haymakers Connor McDonough and Chino Maldonado, who will patrol the outfield with veteran Frank Acker.  Antonio Archina (MCLA) and Joe Duncan (W. Conn) will anchor the catching position, and veteran Jason Owens will be the designated hitter.  The team is built around an increasingly experienced core that provided a solid defense in 2016 and is optimistic about its offensive potential.  The key to success for the Haymakers in 2017 will be the development of a consistent pitching staff and the continued improvement of a young team. The Haymakers are managed by Dave “Mooney” Bestle, who is replacing Steve Heiser.  Bestle founded the Haymakers in 1982 and served as manager until turning it over to Heiser in 1998.  He brings a wealth of coaching experience and an energetic style to the team.  Heiser, who has 33 years as a player or coach with the Haymakers, will continue with the team in an administrative role.
